Making Math LESS Painful

Overview: Looking for a homeschool math curriculum that will be less stressful and might even make math become your child’s favorite subject? Make math less painful!

When my boys were younger, they enjoyed math. They liked using M&Ms as counters (and being able to eat them afterward.) They enjoyed skip counting while they jumped on our trampoline. And they had a blast playing all sorts of fun math games. Teaching math to younger kids is actually fun.

As those same kids get older, however, math can become the bane of homeschool moms. The kids tire of the endless piles of worksheets. The lessons become harder, forcing us moms to scramble to the internet and the solution manuals to try to figure out where our child is messing up. And the whole process becomes one giant pain in the rumpus.

Making Math Less Painful

In fact, when homeschool moms are asked which subject is their least favorite to teach, or which subject they wish they could skip, the vast majority say MATH!

So, what if I told you that your kids could learn math in a much less painful way?!? What if I said that math could actually become a favorite subject rather than something your kids dread? Enter Mr. D’s Math.

I received this product for free and I was compensated for my time, but all of my opinions are honest and I was not required to post a positive review.

His on-line math courses make it easy for kids to learn higher mathematics concepts, to prepare for the ACT/SAT, to learn Life Skills, and even to get caught up on math over the summer.

  • Geometry
  • Algebra II
  • Pre-Calculus
  • SAT Math Bootcamp
  • ACT Math Bootcamp
  • Life Skills for Teens

How Are Mr. D Math Courses Less Painful?

We’ve tried lots of different math programs over the years, but Mr. D’s courses blow them all away. Here are some of the aspects of these courses that make them special:

They’re Simple for Homeschool Moms

We don’t have to install complicated software, read teacher’s manuals, work through problems with our kids, search for solutions on the internet, puzzle through the mistakes our child has made to try to guide them, or even grade papers. Mr. D handles all of that for you. Each course is set up in such a way that your child watches their lesson, it is explained thoroughly, they print off their work, and check their work without you having to be involved.

They’re Less Stressful for Moms and Kids

My boys are able to listen to Mr. D’s lessons and grasp the concept without asking me all sorts of crazy questions that I have a hard time answering. This is so much less stressful all the way around. I’m not scurrying to the internet to try to figure out how to solve problems. And my kids aren’t getting frustrated with me because they’re having to wait for my further explanations.

There are Different Options for Different Types of Learners

Mr. D offers live classes as well as recorded classes. Each of these options has benefits. The live classes allow students to interact with each other and to benefit from Mr. D’s explanations to the other students as they answer questions. The recorded classes allow the kids to move at their own pace without experiencing the need to keep up with the other students.

Never Teach Math Again?

We’ve tried various math programs over the years and have been happier with some than with others. The thing that sets Mr. D’s classes apart is that you can choose to have an actual math teacher at your disposal. In the live classes, students can ask questions, Mr. D adapts the pace and the explanations for the students to be sure that everyone catches on, and he has a warm, friendly tone.

I actually got teary-eyed the first time I watched one of his live classes with my son.

At the beginning of the lesson, Mr. D was presenting a new concept that my son hadn’t been introduced to before and he was a little bit lost. It was an amazing feeling to see Mr. D actually lead my son through the class and to explain things in such a way that he thoroughly understood the concept by the end of the class. In fact, even I understood the concept and that’s saying something. It has been a long time since I took these math classes myself and my skills are a little bit rusty.

If you or your kids are struggling with math, I invite you to give Mr. D’s math a try. I can’t even tell you what a relief to know that my sons are going to be taught math the right way and not to have to be concerned that they might be held back by my lack of math skills anymore!

  1. Wow! This was really exciting to read about. Thank you for posting. My question is the cost. I could not find anything on his web site for the cost a class. Do you have any idea?

    1. Yes. If you go to the part of my post which lists all the different classes Mr. D offers, click on the class you’re curious about and it will take you to more detailed information, which includes pricing.

  2. I am somewhat skeptical of all reviews that say they received the product for free for an unbiased review. Can you honestly affirm that you switched to this product and it really is the best math product that you have experienced? I have never seen a negative review that includes the kind of disclaimer, so it is hard to trust. I’m sorry for my doubt. You are a trusted resource of mine and I have noticed this disclaimer listed in your recommendations and it makes me a bit uneasy. Thanks!!

    1. Hey, I don’t blame you for being skeptical. We’re required to put that disclaimer in there for legal reasons but it does make it seem kind of shady. I want to assure you, however, that I wouldn’t actually write about something if I didn’t like it. If we had tried the product and we didn’t like it, I would have told the author that I didn’t feel comfortable misleading my audience by writing a post about it.

Having said that, everything I said in my post was true. We really did enjoy the Mr. D’s math. It was a huge relief to me to have someone else take over the responsibility of teaching that subject, which has become very difficult over here for my boys and for myself. And we are planning to purchase his program ourselves next year so that we can continue. To date, it has been the best program we’ve used for higher-level math. My boys understand his teaching and I don’t have to be involved with trying to interpret what the teaching manual is trying to say. I hope that answers your question! 🙂

  3. I have heard about Mr. D from several homeschoolers. Thank you for your review. It has been helpful in my decision to give this math curriculum a try!
