Lads & Ladies of VirtueI recently had the privilege of receiving a copy of Lads & Ladies of Wisdom to review.  This is the newest project by Kathie Morrissey of The Character Corner.  Kathie is a mother of eight children and she has been homeschooling for 28 years.  She has a wealth of information that she loves to share with the rest of us about how to raise our children to love God and to become people of good character.

Lads & Ladies of Wisdom is an excellent tool for teaching character building to elementary aged children!

Each week of this curriculum has a memory verse which emphasizes a specific character trait such as self control, obedience, faithfulness, and dependability.

Specific key points are included for each week, giving the kids solid ways to apply what they’re learning for the week.  These are wise words to remember such as “A foolish person has no control over his mouth” or “Foolishness brings sadness to parents.”

There are also suggested scripture verses to read for each day which help to reinforce what the kids are learning.

Kathie has included a variety of suggested activities to help the lessons stick.  Some of these activities are very hands-on allowing the kids to get up and move while learning.  There are also lots of games and object lessons to make the character building lessons more fun.

Because some of these activities are geared for younger children, Kathie has also created an activities & copywork companion book which includes activities which would be better suited for older elementary students.  These include word searches, coloring pages, dot-to-dot, and copywork pages in print and cursive.

I suggest letting your child decorate a binder at the beginning of the year and placing all of their completed work inside it to create a handy reference and keepsake of the lessons.  You could even take pictures of your children as they do the hands-on activities and print them out to include in this same binder.

Lads & Ladies of Wisdom includes detailed lesson plans making teacher preparation quick and painless.

This curriculum comes in ebook format making it easy to print only the pages you want to do with your children.  In my opinion, the easiest way to use the curriculum would be to print off the pages one week at a time.

Lads & Ladies of Wisdom is 20 weeks of character building lessons for only $15!

The Lads & Ladies of Wisdom Activities & Copywork book is an additional $15.

BTW – Lads & Ladies of Wisdom is the sequel of Little Lads & Ladies of Virtue.

  1. I have looked around a lot for good resources for helping my kids with character building from a Biblical perspective, but there doesn’t seem to be much out there. This looks great! I would love a copy!

  2. I have two young headstrong boys ages 6 and 8 that I have been struggling with guiding in the right direction. I am also experiencing a financial hardship and would be unable to purchase this. My boys do love their homeschool time so this would be a great addition to our daily work. My family would greatly benefit from a copy!

  3. Thank you for helping me remember to focus on character. It’s so easy to overlook this as I get bogged down in choosing core curriculum.
I’ve looked at a few other character books for grade-schoolers, but they were quite pricey so I never bought them. I think my three sons and their little sister would enjoy using this study!
    Many Blessings,
